Dr Samintharaj Kumar is adept at putting nervous patients at ease and has the ability to inspire confidence in them. He is a general dental practitioner, but due to his hospital training and surgical background, frequently handles complex cases that require considerable surgical focus and aesthetic demand.

He sees patients with jaw pain and sleep apnea, which can lead to dental concerns such as bruxism and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Dr Kumar believes in a holistic management of his TMJ patients and very often works in tandem with physiotherapists and a Nuffield counsellor. Management starts with assessment using specific TMJ X-rays and Tekscan T-Scan to objectively understand how the patient is biting. 

The TMJ management principles include conservative and invasive management depending on the complexity and severity of a patient’s needs. Some of these services include using a TENS machine and laser to alleviate and reduce pain, accompanied by dental splints to rest the jaw. More challenging needs include injections tailored to the patient’s needs.
