With her range of services, Dr Asha likes to describe herself as a “Smile Maker”. When asked what she found satisfying about her work, Dr Asha replied, “The smiles my patients give me.”
For Dr Asha, the important role of a healthcare professional is to counsel and guide patients to achieve and maintain health. Treatment of a disease is solely temporary relief if the patient is not enabled to keep himself healthy.
Dr Asha’s strong belief in health education led her to be President of the Singapore Dental Health Foundation – an organisation dedicated to public education and health promotion. She led this organization for 13 years.
She continues to contribute to the dental profession in Singapore. She is an active member of the Aesthetic Dentistry Society of Singapore. Indeed, her many contributions earned her a place in the Singapore Dental Association’s Roll of Honour.
An experienced public speaker, Dr Asha is known for her entertaining and authoritative style. She has delivered health education talks to community and corporate organisations. She willingly expends her energy and time on dental health education as she believes in the saying,
“Give a man a fish and you have fed him for the day. Teach a man to fish and you have fed him for a lifetime”
Hence, patient education is an integral part of her practice.
One of her favourite quotations is attributed to the American inventor, Thomas Edison:
“The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
Dr Asha aims to be that doctor of the future.
