What Is MediSave?

MediSave is a national healthcare savings scheme for Singaporeans and Permanent Residents. You set aside a portion of your monthly income (usually between 8-10.5%, depending on your age) into your CPF MediSave account. This amount grows over time and helps you pay for future medical needs like dental treatments, hospital stays, day surgeries and some outpatient treatments.

Using MediSave gives you peace of mind by making healthcare, including essential dental care, more affordable for you and your family.

Who is Eligible for Dental MediSave?

  • You must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident (PR).
  • You should be at least 18 years old.
  • You need to have enough funds in your MediSave account.
  • If your own MediSave balance is not enough, you may use the MediSave account of an immediate family member (such as your spouse, children, or parents).
  • For some treatments, having MediShield Life coverage might be helpful, but this depends on the specific procedure.

Can I Use MediSave for Dental Treatments?

Yes, for some procedures.

According to the CPF (Central Provident Fund) board, MediSave mainly covers surgical dental treatments that are required for medical reasons, such as removal of impacted wisdom teeth or dental implant surgery. Routine treatments like fillings, scaling and polishing or extractions that do not involve surgery are generally not claimable.

If your dental treatment involves surgery, check with your dentist or clinic staff. Many clinics in Singapore are familiar with the process and will help you make a MediSave claim.

It’s common to be confused about what qualifies. When in doubt, just ask your provider directly. They can explain what part of your dental bill can be supported by MediSave, before you start any treatment.

Keep in mind, each claim uses only amounts in your personal MediSave account. Always check with your dental clinic for the exact claimable amount before your treatment so you can plan your finances without worry.

Dental Treatments That Are Not MediSave-Claimable

Some dental treatments are not eligible for MediSave claims. These are mostly non-surgical, or cosmetic, or aesthetic dental procedures. If you are planning your dental care, it helps to know which treatments fall into this category.

These treatments focus on improving appearance or maintaining daily dental health, rather than medical emergencies or complex surgeries.

How to Submit MediSave Claim

Important documents to bring:

    • NRIC or other valid identification (e.g. passport, driving license)
    • Completed Medical Claims Authorisation Form (provided at the clinic)

1. Inform the Clinic Early

When you book your appointment, let the clinic staff know you’re using MediSave. They’ll guide you through the process and ensure everything is done correctly.

2. Bring the Required Documents

Bring your NRIC for ID verification. You’ll need to fill up a Medical Claims Authorisation Form (MCAF) during your visit, and log in to your Singpass to check if you have enough balance. Alternatively, you can bring a printed copy of your MediSave Statement of Account for verification.

3. Claim on Your Behalf

Once everything is ready, the clinic will submit the MediSave claim for you. After processing, you’ll receive a MediSave Claims Statement with the amount deducted.

You only need to pay the balance after the claim has been processed.

For example:

Procedure Cost MediSave Claimable Amount You Pay
$4,000 $1,500 $2,500

If your MediSave balance or claimable limit isn’t enough to cover the full cost, the clinic staff can discuss alternative payment options to help you manage the remainder.

How long before CPF deductions for my dental treatment are reflected?
